“Turquoise Grill ” comes from Old French for “Turkish.” LIke many Europeans at that time, the French believed that the turquoise stone came from Turkey. It did arrive in Europe from Turkey because of trade routes, but originated in Persia. The French called it the “pierre turquois,” or “Turkish stone.”
